Aston Villa vs West Ham LIVE: Premier League result, final score and reaction

Match Preview: Aston Villa vs West Ham on 31/10/2021

Follow all the action as Aston Villa host West Ham United in the Premier League this afternoon.

Pressure is starting to build on Dean Smith after a disappointing start to the season, with Villa currently sitting in 15th, having won just three of their nine games this season. Victory could propel Villa up into 11th, but they come into the fixture on the back of three successive defeats, the last of which, at Arsenal, saw Smith’s side thoroughly outclassed. The head coach batted away criticism this week, though, insisting any negativity had been blown out of proportion and that he expected a positive response from his squad.

West Ham, meanwhile, come into the match full of confidence after a brilliant start to their own campaign. David Moyes’s side sit fourth in the Premier League table, have won their last four games in all competitions, and are on the brink of securing their place in the Europa League knockout stages, too. The Hammers dumped holders Manchester City out of the Carabao Cup on penalties on Wednesday and won’t want to cede any momentum after such a fine run of results. Follow all the action live below:

West Ham hit four goals for the third time in the Premier League this season – and Michail Antonio wasn’t even on the scoresheet!

No wonder David Moyes was asked about his side being called the Premier League’s “great entertainers” before tonight’s match.

FULL TIME: Aston Villa 1-4 West Ham

West Ham’s dream start to the season continues with a big win over 10-man Aston Villa, as David Moyes’ side return to fourth place in the Premier League.

The Hammers are going strong on three fronts and wrapped up their latest win with two late goals from Fornals and Bowen, after Konsa was sent off for Villa shortly after the restart.

Villa’s tough run continues as Dean Smith’s side slip to their fourth defeat in a row. His changes did not work today and they will look to bounce back away to Southampton on Friday night.

After a mid-week trip to Genk in the Europa league, West Ham welcome Liverpool to the London Stadium next Sunday – what a match that is going to be!

Aston Villa 1-4 West Ham

87 mins: Lanzini curls a free kick wide, with Martinez beaten in the Villa goal.

Until the 80th minute, I really didn’t think West Ham had played that well against the 10 men of Villa. But Moyes’ side found their clinical edge when they needed it most to put the match beyond Dean Smith’s side, who are heading to a fourth consecutive defeat.

Villa Park has emptied as West Ham fans ring out the ‘oles!’ at every pass.

GOAL! Aston Villa 1-4 West Ham (BOWEN 84’)

West Ham are running riot! Antonio drives at the Villa defence unchallenged before slipping it forward to Lanzini. The substitute unselfishly squares the ball to Bowen for the simplest of tap-ins.

The Hammers are heading level on points with Manchester City!

GOAL! Aston Villa 1-3 West Ham (FORNALS 81’)

Fornals wraps up the points for West Ham in front of the travelling fans! Antonio flicks the ball forward to Bowen who has the entire half to run into. His shot across goal is saved by Martinez but Fornals follows it in to bundle it over the line!

Villa will be aggrieved that the two players involved in the previous incident had a part to play in the goal – but the goal had been coming. It was just a case of West Ham taking their chance.

Aston Villa 1-2 West Ham

78 mins: A challenge between Fornals and Nakamba sparks some pushing and shoving between the teams, with Bowen throwing McGinn to the ground.

Fornals was late and is booked for the tackle while Bowen also receives a yellow card for his shove on McGinn, who is also booked. McGinn got right into Fornals’ face following the tackle.
